Sydney Swans duo Ted Richards and Tom Papley will undergo fitness tests later this week in a bid to line up against North Melbourne on Friday night.

Richards left the field early in the first quarter of Friday night’s win over Hawthorn after suffering a heavy knock to his head in a marking contest.

The veteran defender will consult with club doctors before making a decision on whether he will tackle North Melbourne.

“Ted Richards obviously suffered concussion early on in the piece in a really courageous mark,” General Manager of Football Tom Harley said.

“We take concussion extremely seriously so we are monitoring Ted very closely at the moment.

“We haven’t made a decision, Ted will be involved in that decision so it is a wait and see for Ted.”

Papley missed last week’s clash with the Hawks due to ongoing shin soreness.

The 20-year-old small forward will push his case for a senior recall at Wednesday’s main training session.

“We will test him again but we are not going to take any risks with our players, especially our younger players,” Harley told the HCF injury update.

“Being a young first-year player it has been a significant step up in intensity for him, so he is a test going into this Friday night’s game.”

Key defender Sam Reid will make a return to football this weekend with a decision on whether he plays at NEAFL or AFL level to be made by the match committee later in the week.

Defender Michael Talia suffered a minor setback in his recovery from a fracture in his foot and has been placed on the long-term injury list.
