Sydney Swans captain Josh Kennedy admits it was an easy decision to sign a new three-year deal with the Club.

The three-time Bob Skilton Medallist was due to come out of contract at the end of next season but his new deal ties him to the Club until the end of 2020.

On the same day he was announced as the new captain, Kennedy said he was looking forward to leading the club into the future.

“The Club is in a good position, we have a good list at the moment that can continue to challenge for top spot and premiership success,” he said.

“That is what we are in the business for and I look forward to continuing that journey with my teammates.”

Kennedy was due to become a free agent at the end of the 2017 season but never gave any consideration to moving clubs.

“The negotiations are something that has been ongoing for the last six to twelve months,” Kennedy said.

“There was never too much thought given to it as I knew I wanted to stay at the Swans and it was just about managing the negotiations behind the scenes.

“It is fantastic that we have been able to come to an agreement but it certainly wasn’t difficult.”

The 28-year-old joined the Swans from the Hawks via the trade period in exchange for pick 39 in the 2009 National Draft.

A famous name at the Hawthorn Football Club, Kennedy is proud of all he has achieved since making the move to the Harbour city.

“It has been an amazing journey since making the transition across from Hawthorn and it feels like an eternity ago now.”

Kennedy will captain the Swans with support from vice captains Dane Rampe, Luke Parker and Dan Hannebery.
