We knew that Nic Newman had a sensational game against the Kangaroos with 35 touches, 11 marks and four tackles, in what was just his fifth AFL game.

However after doing some checking we’ve discovered that his stats are somewhat unique.

Newman appears to be the first player in Swans history to have gathered 35 touches in just his fifth game.

Other Swans to have reached that tally relatively early in their careers include Jake Lloyd (in his 44th game), Josh Kennedy (in his 61st game overall) and Paul Kelly (in his 32nd game).

Meanwhile Newman’s had a total of 112 disposals from his five games so far.

In comparison, superstars like Patrick Dangerfield (65), Nat Fyfe (69), Scott Pendlebury (62) and Gary Ablett Jr (53) haven’t topped 70 from their first five.

Newman was in good company against the Kangaroos with captain Josh Kennedy (37 touches) and vice-captains Luke Parker (36) and Dan Hannebery (33) chiming in to lead the Swans to a 42-point win over North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
