Sydney Swans midfielder Dan Hannebery has stormed into the top three in this year’s AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award after picking up a ‘perfect ten’ votes against the Hawks on Friday night.

The 25-year-old, who claimed the coveted award last year, accumulated 33 disposals, 11 clearances, six inside-50s and five tackles in the team’s 14-point victory over the reigning premiers.

John Longmire and Alastair Clarkson were also impressed with the work of Heath Grundy (eight votes) who was a rock in defence, continually limiting the Hawks’ ability to hit the scoreboard.

Forward Lance Franklin’s match-winning two goal final quarter, Tom Mitchell’s run-with role on Hawks midfielder Sam Mitchell and Kurt Tippett’s huge game in the ruck and up forward were also rewarded with two votes each from the coaches.

For the Hawks, Jack Gunston was the only player in brown and gold to catch the attention of the coaches, picking up six votes after kicking four goals.
