Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley admits it is disappointing that the club was not able to complete a trade to bring Essendon forward Joe Daniher to the Club.

A trade was not agreed upon with Essendon on Daniher who nominated Sydney as his club of choice after requesting a trade at the start of the 2019 Telstra AFL Trade Period.

Harley said the Swans did their best to facilitate a trade with the Bombers.

“We put forward an offer that we thought was compelling and commensurate with the deals that have been done with players of that ilk,” Harley said.

“What I will say about the Bombers and the way they handled it was it was always respectfully, and they were always consistent that they needed a player to replace Joe.

“We put forward what we thought was a compelling deal and that involved two first round picks.

“Clearly there is some disappointment in that, but we have to move on.”

A deal to send Tom Papley to Carlton could also not be facilitated meaning Papley will remain in the red and white in season 2020.

“What often gets left out is the human side to all of those and when you are at the coalface as our guys were,” Harley told SEN Radio.

“That has to be taken into consideration so as long as you can put your head on the pillow and you’ve done the right thing by people and the right thing by your club then you can sleep well.”

The Swans did complete a deal that sent Zak Jones to St Kilda and Darcy Cameron to Collingwood.

Brisbane forward/midfielder Lewis Taylor was also added to the Swans list and is expected to add depth to the small forward stocks of the club.
